What Is The Best Plan For Me?
Is it high carb, low carb, high fat, low fat, no fat?
We hear so many opinions about the best way to diet. The bottom line is this: If you love the outcome, it’s the best plan for you.
The Best Plan
The best plan is the one you can live with and stick to. If you don’t like it, no matter how healthy it’s supposed to be, you are likely going to quit at some point. If you quit, you didn’t succeed, therefore it was not the best plan for you.
The person, for example, who is convinced by a TV infomercial that eating meat is bad and decides a vegan diet is the perfect plan for them may also be seen eating meat on occasion. Well, it’s not my routine they say. It’s just a once in a while. This could be true and even okay, but what I see most often is the deviation becomes more frequent over time eventually leading back to old desires. While the infomercial was convincing, this person couldn’t consistently live without eating meat.
Consistency on any good plan is how people see the “wow” changes they really hope to see. Stopping and starting on diet plans has more to do with failure dieting than the plan does itself. Almost any plan works if one works the plan.
If you have trouble sticking to a plan take a close look at why that is. It may be that the plan doesn’t fit you. It may not be right for your tastes and schedule, and it may not fit the dynamics of your family or home environment. The right plan is the plan that you can live with and stick to. The right plan is a plan you can live with for life. The portions may vary, of course, from weight loss to maintenance, but the food itself is something you enjoy and can enjoy for a life.
Social media fad diets are sometimes appealing, but the proof is in the outcome. They may work for everyone else, but do they work for you? This is always the determining factor in searching for the best plan. It must work for you and you must love the outcome, or it is not the right plan.
When you find the right plan there will still be challenges in sticking with it. Even a perfect plan will not have all the food on it that you love to eat.
Finding the perfect plan is the first step, but even with the perfect plan, you will need to make the necessary corrections life’s circumstances bring your way to stay consistent. There will be temptations and unexpected events and circumstances to challenge every plan, even a perfect plan.
Having a coach to help guide you through life’s unexpected circumstances will ensure you don’t under correct or overcorrect on your plan. Learning how to navigate through temptations and life’s unexpected events is key for lifetime success in fitness.
Finding the right plan is important to be sure, but the secret isn’t all about the plan. The secret to success on any plan is consistency. The best plan is the one you can be consistent with forever, not just for a short period of time.
